We were extremely fortunate to have Michael ManyEagles visit our school this week. Michael is a Cree-Metis artist, specializing in soapstone carving. Michael demonstrated some techniques and then students were able to carve their own pieces of soapstone. We all began by creating an arrowhead, and then after that, students were allowed to create a design of their own. It was amazing to see the students’ creativity shine. While some found it challenging to carve and create unique designs, most students found this experience to be fun, exciting, and rewarding.
